InnerSpace:
Meditation + Movement
An 8-week movement practice that works for you because it’s made for you.
Still feel stiff after yoga? You’re not doing it wrong. You’re not broken.
You’ve just been told that stretching is the answer, when it might actually be making things worse.
If you’re a few weeks into your New Year yoga routine and still feeling stiff, tight, and sore, the problem isn’t you. The thing is, most yoga is actually more about performance than function. All that stretching and twisting might feel good in the moment, but unless you’re doing with attention to how everything in your body moves together, it may be doing more harm than good.
Repeat after me: “There is no moral obligation to love yoga.”
If we haven’t met yet, I’m Erin. I’m a dancer, movement teacher, and CranioSacral Therapist who struggled with chronic pain for most of my adult life. Like you, I used to force myself into yoga classes thinking I was doing something good for my body. But after every class, I’d limp out of the studio, convincing myself I felt better because I was “supposed to.”
I wasn’t broken, I just wasn’t seeing the whole picture.
Innerspace is an 8-week online community class to address chronic pain, emotional barriers, and reconnect with your body’s natural design for movement. This course blends the physical world of biomechanics (outerspace) with the emotional and somatic world (innerspace) to help you move with more ease and restore a meaningful relationship with your body- without the floof.
Most movement and somatic methods address pain by only looking at the physical body, or only the emotions. In over 20 years working with bodies and movement, I’ve learned that the key to working through pain is actually a combination of both.
With InnerSpace, each session is unique and designed to fit the needs of both individual students and the class as a whole.
“What is most personal is most Universal.” -Carl Rogers
March 3rd- April 23rd
InnerSpace simply means everything inside your body- physical, emotional, and somatic. It’s also a rad movie from the 80’s.
InnerSpace is perfect for you if:
You know “motion is lotion” but it hurts to move, so you feel stuck in a pain cycle.
You want to move better, but haaaate going to the gym or traditional workouts trigger symptoms
You’re in pain and stretching isn’t helping. (Hint: stretching isn’t always the answer, and can even make things worse!)
Yoga isn’t your thing. (It’s okay to admit that. Even if you live in Portland.)
You want to explore your body’s connection with emotions, but you’re tired of flowery, esoteric language you don’t relate to.
You just want someone to tell you what the f***k to do, but you’re tired of cookie-cutter programs that don’t work for your body.
InnerSpace is NOT:
A yoga class
A workout
A protocol or curriculum
Mental health therapy (although you will experience some benefits!)
About pushing through pain
March 3rd - April 23rd
How it Works:
When you sign up, you’ll receive an invitation to share what you’re struggling with in your body, what you’ve tried, and what worked or didn’t work for you. Based on your answers, I’ll design a class that addresses your individual challenges and benefits the whole group at the same time. For example, Sally might say she’s struggling with a shoulder injury and John says he has chronic back pain. The movement sequences we explore together will address both. (Hint: it’s all connected!)
Confidentiality is important here, so I’ll never share your stuff with the group without your consent.
Classes are held live on Zoom twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. PST for one hour, starting March 3rd. All classes will be recorded and sent out afterward, so if you can’t make it live don’t sweat it!
Every week, you’ll be invited to check in to let me know what you’re dealing with and what you’d like to work on.
Class begins with a somatic meditation that brings you to a safe starting place. If you experience trauma or have dealt with chronic pain for a long time, it might not feel safe to be in your body. This class is not about being in your body, it’s about starting where you are- whether that is your innerspace, outerspace, or anywhere in between. After the meditation, we’ll move together, exploring the relationship between biomechanics, nervous system, and somatics to create new possibilities for movement.
For the duration of the 8 weeks, you have access to me via email to answer questions and troubleshoot sticky spots, and work through difficult emotions that might come up.
Investment: $299 for 8 weeks
(That’s around $16/ class, less than the cost of a drop-in yoga class)
